In 2023 I got my first mechanical keyboard, which opened up a can of worms I will not talk about here.

You can customize some mechanical keyboards in a variety of ways and one of them is through keycaps. Within the realm of keycaps there are artisan keycaps, which are handcrafted and often take hours to make.

As much as I love supporting individual artists and small businesses, there’s only so many artisan keycaps one can buy before the wallet begs for mercy– so I tried my hand at making my own.

The hobby didn’t last for very long, but I made a Totoro-inspired keycap for my college roommate’s birthday and a Mid-Autumn Festival/mooncake one for myself:
